Your body isn't "average"

Your body is unique. Although the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) can regulate the amount of nutrients that your body needs to be healthy, it can only do so as an "average" of what the typical body needs. You can take a multi-vitamin that you purchase over the counter, but it is geared toward the average person's needs. That is why custom vitamins are an important health choice that you should embrace.

The FDA recommends the amount of vitamins and minerals that your body needs to operate at it's best. Yet, if your body needs additional nutrients or different nutrients, then your body may not be running on all cylinders. Imagine how much better you will feel if your body was running not only at its best, but at its optimum performance. You would have more energy. The value of zinc

If you do not get an adequate amount of the trace mineral zinc, your body will let you know. Zinc is very important for your immune system's health. If your body doesn't have adequate zinc, you will more than likely be susceptible to cold and flu and your ability to breakdown glucose can be affected, too.

Zinc deficiency manifests itself in many ways. For example, if your sense of smell isn't what it used to be or if you not only cannot smell, but aren't able to taste very well, the culprit may be a lack of zinc in your diet. If you do not have enough zinc, it actually affects your sense of smell; a snowball effect occurs when you cannot smell because you have to be able to smell for your sense of taste to work correctly. Other symptoms of a lack of zinc in your diet can include an increase in skin irritations like acne and psoriasis and your body might now heal as well.

If your body is deficient, you do not want to take too much zinc because it can create health problems. Studies indicate that too much zinc in your diet can cause stomach and bowel distress. Further, ingesting excessive amounts of zinc reduces the good cholesterol in your body. Further research is needed, but a link between Alzheimer's disease and too much zinc is indicated.

Adequate zinc dosage is as simple as taking your daily multivitamin. Usually 30 mg of zinc is the daily dosage that is optimum for your health; however, if your multivitamin has less, do not be concerned. The fact that you take zinc daily is a good indicator that your zinc level is enough to keep you healthy.
